Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is the collection, storage and analysis of  biological data. This is usually DNA and amino acid sequences. The work requires a range of computer software and programs for different application. Applications include finding out the function of a gene or protein, initiating evolutionary relationships, and predicting a proteins 3D state. 

The discipline also involves the creation of methods and software tools to aid in the understanding of biological data.
